House of the Dragon: four seasons already planned?

The House of the Dragon will return soon

The first season of House of the Dragon was extremely well received by fans of game of Thrones. However the pace was high! Going from one of the most popular series in history to focusing on events that happened centuries earlier was no easy feat. But the fans were passionate complex plots which led to the War of Succession within the Targaryen Dynasty.

According to the latest information, season 2 promises to be even more intense. George RR Martin himself anticipated an exciting start to the season, promising fans to experience new episodes in particular. The war of succession, nicknamed “The Dance of the Dragons”, will be at the center of this new season, exploring the complex dynamics and power struggles that will lead to the fall of the Targaryenswith on one side the green clan, led by Alicent, and the black clan, led by Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen.

Two more seasons?

George R.R. Martin’s work on which it is based House of the Dragon is less dense than game of Thrones. These are the two volumes of Fire and blood published in 2018. This spin-off will therefore obviously be shorter than the original series which has eight seasons. Again according to information shared by George RR Martin on his personal blog, a season 3 and a season 4 are currently in discussion at HBO.

I (…) spent two days locked in a room with Ryan Condal and his team of writers (Sara Hess, Ti Mikkel, David Hancock and Philippa Goslett) discussing the third and fourth seasons of “House of the Dragon”. These discussions were lively and fun and we accomplished some good work, even if two days were clearly not enough. There is so much to cover that I’m not sure twenty days would have been enough.

Season 2 will therefore not conclude the famous “Dance of the Dragons” and will retain material to keep viewers in suspense. It will air next summer.
