John Oliver offered his views on the information that came out of the House Committee hearing on Sunday, January 6th. Last week tonight.
It all started when John Eastman, a lawyer who advised then-President Donald Trump during the deadly US Capitol riot, had the idea that then-Vice President Mike Pence could overturn the November 2020 election results.
Oliver showed a clip of former White House adviser Eric Hershman recalling his reaction to the idea.
“I said, ‘Wait a second. I want to understand what you’re saying. “You say you think the vice president, who serves as president of the Senate, might be the only decision maker if… who becomes the next president of the United States?” recalled Hershman. And he said yes. And I said, “Are you spoiled?”
Oliver said: “I’m saying that right now you can only say ‘let me go’. Democracy is hanging by a thread and you had a front row seat. So you said, now you can say. Because what he was offering was shameful. The idea that a person can elect a president is completely contrary to the ideals of this country, which is why the constitution starts with “we the people” and not “Mike”.
Oliver went on to say that the winner of more than 100 Republican primaries supported Trump’s election fraud allegations, including several candidates for secretary of state, which was “disturbing,” Oliver said, “because they could be directly influenced.” For the upcoming presidential elections.
Oliver pointed to Jim Marshant, the Republican candidate for secretary of state in Nevada, who said in a public forum that “Nevada residents haven’t been elected since 2006. ‘They’ve put a deep state thread into this.’
Oliver said, “Oh. Nevadans haven’t been legitimately elected since 2006. That’s a pretty bold claim, especially from the guy who was elected there to the State Assembly in 2016.
Oliver pointed out that one of the candidates who is part of the coalition of the first US Secretary of State, including Audrey Trujillo of New Mexico, said: “A lot of people, whether we can prove it or not, feel that this election was stolen. ”
Oliver said, “Can we try or not? That’s a big flaw, isn’t it, Audrey? We all believe many things that we cannot prove, but we shouldn’t base our life decisions on them.
Oliver also showed a clip of Christina Caramo running for Secretary of State in Michigan, accusing Democrats of a “satanic agenda”.
“Obviously the Democrats don’t have a satanic agenda, mainly because it requires an agenda in the first place,” Oliver said.
