AMC Entertainment’s Odeon Cinemas Group has extended its agreement with Imax to install locations for new big screens in five European markets.
Odeon, one of the UK’s oldest exhibitions, will upgrade six Imax cinemas in the UK with laser projection systems, creating venues for nine new theaters that were previously installed across Europe. This includes four new cinemas in Spain, two in Italy and one in Germany, Sweden and the UK.
All locations will open in 2025. An expanded partnership was announced at CineEurope in Spain.
“We are pleased to expand our long-term partnership with Imax as we continue to invest in our property to make better movies for our guests. We are excited by the large number of guests who have returned, seeking the most impressive experience possible, and look forward to the rest of the year with confidence. The managing director of Odeon Cinemas Group said in a statement on Monday.
Imax has been doing business with Odeon for around 15 years, with the UK-based exhibition opening its first giant-screen cinema in 2008. A deal with 25 Imax Theater followed in 2017, making Odeon the biggest buyer and European operator of the giant. Cinemas in Europe.
In 2016, AMC Entertainment, which runs a company called AMC Theaters, acquired Odeon & UCI Cinemas Group for around $1.2 billion.
