Harlan Coben continues on Netflix with Double trap
If fans of detective novels know this Harlan Coben for his works, Netflix subscribers know him for the numerous adaptations of his works. In 2018, in fact, the author signed an agreement with the streaming service for the adaptation of 14 of his novels into series or films. From there were born, among others, Intimidation, In the woodsOR Do not leave. It’s called the last one Double trap (Fool me once on VO)and has serious arguments to be a new Netflix hit.
The series begins next Joe’s death, murdered during a robbery attempt gone wrong. The man leaves his wife Maya in mourning, who remembers the good times spent with him, but must quickly compose herself to take care of her young daughter, while dealing with the comments of her middle-class mother-in-law. At the same time, Detective Sami Kierce is tasked with investigating Joe’s death.

Nothing seems out of the ordinary after these first few minutes Double trap. Until Maya agrees, on the advice of a friend of hers, to install a frame with a camera in her daughter’s room, to be able to monitor her while her nanny takes care of her. After a day, she goes to look at the pictures and he discovers with amazement Joe, very much alive. Only after confronting her nanny, who is worried about this situation and defends herself with pepper spray, Maya discovers that the camera’s memory card is missing. She therefore has no proof of Joe’s presence. But was it real?or a hallucination linked to the shock of her husband’s death?
A series full of mysteries
This is obviously just the beginning of a scenario full of twists and turns, typical of Harlan Coben. In each episode, a new lead seems to cast doubt on Joe’s death, which perhaps wasn’t so accidental after all. Furthermore, the past of Maya, a former soldier, will also resurface. Without forgetting that before Joe, the heroine had already experienced a tragedy a year earlier the death of his sister. This could all be connected to a much bigger conspiracy…
Viewers who are passionate about detective series and mysterious investigations will be delighted by this story, which however does not hesitate to be of great credibility and coherence. Because obviously, the important thing with Double trap is to constantly offer new mysteries to keep the audience’s attention. This doesn’t make it a great series, but an honest proposition in this genre.

The quality of Double trap then it comes more from the tone itself Britishwith surprisingly funny situations brought by Detective Kierce, falsely out of place, or Maya’s strong character. The show benefits from a good cast. If, not surprisingly, we find Richard Armitage (a regular character in Harlan Coben productions) in the role of Joe, is played by Maya Michelle Keegan (excellent inside Brassico). The detective is played by Adeel Akhtar, a face well known to fansUtopia OREnola Holmes (on Netflix). Finally, note the presence of Joanna Lumley, solid in playing Maya’s cold mother-in-law.
Double trapcreated by Harlan Coben and adapted by Daniel Brocklehurst, is available on Netflix January 1, 2024.
