Godzilla Minus One: one of the best films of 2023 returns to French cinemas for a limited time

Godzilla Minus One: the big hit of 2023

It is the biggest success ever for a Japanese film in the United States, he reported more than 81 million dollars worldwide for a budget of around 15 million, it has 98% positive reviews Rotten tomatoes. This buzz around Godzilla minus one led the distributor to release the film in French theaters for only two days, December 7th and 8th. And all the sessions were sold out.

As a reminder, Minus one is set just after World War II, when Japan was still traumatized by the events of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After first appearing in 1945, Godzilla shook the country again in 1947, and threatens to destroy everything in its path. A suicide bomber named Koichi, still traumatized by his first confrontation with Godzilla, sees his return as a way to atone for his conduct during the war, and will try to stop him.

The film has been released in theaters for a few days

If you haven’t had a chance to find out Minus one at the cinema last December, good news! The film’s distributor, POM, has decided to give the film a second life in French cinemas, from 17 to 31 January. The founder of the POM declared:

The great success of the film on a global scale, the unanimous reception of critics and the strong demand expressed by French fans motivated our choice to offer a second release of GODZILLA MINUS ONE in cinemas. We made this decision in collaboration with TOHO to respond to the frustration of fans who did not have enough time to see the film on the big screen when it was first released in France.

If you want to discover (or rediscover) the film, we can only recommend screenings in Dolby theaters, to enjoy it to the fullest the incredible sound design of the film. Godzilla’s roars have never been so scary.
