SEGPA on skis: between great successes and deprogramming

SEGPA in skiing: a great success in theaters

The first part released in the summer of 2022 was a great success with over 700,000 entries. SEGPA return to the cinema with a second film, in theaters from December 27th. In this sequel we find the characters from the first part, who are now at the Terminal. They will have to face two new challenges: obtaining their high school diploma and winning the inter-high school winter games organized in the mountains. During this competition, these broken arms will try to put their high school in the spotlight, but not necessarily in the best way.

Issued during school holidays, SEGPA on skis was a resounding success in theaters, reaching 600,000 spectators in its first week of activity. The feature film should soon surpass one million viewers.

A success marred by multiple excesses

Unfortunately the success of the film SEGPA on skis was marked by multiple excesses in several cities in France, even requiring police intervention during the sessions. In Montpellier, for example, the police had to intervene at the Gaumont Multiplex cinema in the Odysseum due to repeated shouting, insults and altercations. Videos circulating on social media show some sessions of the film interrupted following arguments.

In response to these riots, several cinemas were forced to hire security guards and conduct searches before screenings. This illustrates the drastic measures taken by some cinemas to handle the situation and ensure public safety. Other cinemas have even gone further, simply canceling the film to avoid these incivilities. This had already been the case in previous horror films such as Annabella 2deprogrammed rooms to avoid overflows.

These events also provoked reactions within the film crew. Hamza Bensahnoune, one of the actors, expressed frustration with these behaviors, highlighting the negative impact on the representation of populations from a migrant background in the media. He also mentioned the rise of the Bougheraba brothers, directors of the film, which is now overshadowed by these incidents. Ichem Bougheraba, another actor, reacted by reminding us of the importance of respect in cinemas, rejecting the idea that the behavior observed was due to a lack of education. He also discussed the influence of social networks on young people’s behavior.
