Avatar 3: James Cameron hasn’t finished surprising us
James Cameron is currently in the midst of post-production on the highly anticipated film Avatara3, which will be released in theaters in December 2025. The huge success of the second part proved that viewers were still passionately connected to the Pandora universe. At least two sequels will be released later, and perhaps more, if the audience is still there.
During a recent interview given to the magazine People on the occasion of the release of his new film During the flight (available on Netflix from January 12), Sam Worthington, the interpreter of Jake Sully, has confided that the actors will begin filming again next February for the sequels ofAvatars. She teased something “huge” coming:
We’re going back to work in a month and it’s huge (…) Even more than you can imagine.
However, he did not specify whether he was talkingAvatara3 (for which the team could do post-production), or if these were shots for the future Avatara4 AND Avatar 5. We know that James Cameron has already filmed some scenesAvatara4to ensure continuity with the young actors before a six-year time jump which will arrive in the second part of the fourth film. But he had specified that he wanted to shoot the “remaining” scenes of theAvatara4 once the third film comes out. There is therefore a good chance that Sam Worthington will talk mainly about the third part.
The fans are impatient
James Cameron, known for pushing the boundaries of film technology, has already set records with previous films in the saga. The second work, The Way of Water, was not only a box office triumph, but also received praise for its advancements in visual effects and immersive filmmaking. This was notably the first time underwater motion capture was used. This success sets the bar very high for the next films in the saga Avatars.
In addition to technological innovation, Cameron has always focused on developing deep characters and rich storytelling. Avatara3 promises to continue on this path, with the introduction of new cultures and creatures in the already rich universe of Pandora. Particularly anticipated is the addition of the Ash People, a race antagonistic to the Na’vi, which promises to add a new dimension to the complex plot of the series.
