In the last episode of Echonamed “Maya”, we see Maya Lopez understanding the visions she was having since returning to the town of Tamaha, Oklahoma, and her tribe, the Choctaws. When going after her grandmother, she ends up having a vision of her mother, who died when she was still a child, who explains to her her relationship with her ancestors.

Mayathen discovers that the women in her family have the ability to connect with those who came before them – from the tribe’s first leader, Chafaeven the Maya – and acquire their powers, which range from skills for fighting and self-defense to the gift of healing, like an echo, which continues to resonate through generations.

Later we see Maya going to meet the King of crime, imagining that he is holding his grandmother and cousin hostage. Upon finding him, she discovers that she was right, but also finds herself in the middle of an ambush, with all of the villain’s henchmen surrounding her.

Maya asks her family to trust her and then launches an attack against her henchmen. Fiskwith the help of his grandmother and cousin, who also begin to manifest the powers of their ancestors.

However, Maya does not attack King of crime. Instead, she repeats a gesture used by her mother, in a flashback at the beginning of the episode, to try to heal the villain’s pain. We then see some scenes from the past of Fisk and we noticed his reluctance to get rid of what hurt him, since all of that made him who he is today.

After a moment, Maya She releases her uncle, who asks her, shaken and confused, what the girl had done to him. Although something seems to have changed in Fiskit is not clear whether the young woman really managed to cure him of his pain, but he gives up on taking revenge on her and ends up leaving.

However, after the end of the episode, we see the villain again in a post-credits scene. He is on his private plane and watches the news on a television. During a debate, the presenters say that New York City is in need of a new representative and, while listening, Fisk seems increasingly interested, which suggests he may run for mayor in the future.

Maya LopezThe Echo, is Marvel’s first Native American and deaf heroine. In the comics, she was the first character to take on the title of Ronin even before Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner), who used the alterego in Avengers: Endgame (2019) after losing his family to the Thanos (Josh Brolin).

In its adaptation for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the character played by Alaqua Cox – who is also deaf and Native American, in addition to having a mechanical leg – was introduced as the leader of the Hoodie Gang, a New York mafia, in Archer hawk.
