Kevin Hart withdrew from hosting the 2019 Oscars after homophobic posts were revisited
Kevin Hart does not intend to present an awards show again. He has already presented the BET AwardsO MTV VMAsO MTV Movie Awards and was considered to be the host in the 2019 edition of Oscar. The invitation ended up being declined after homophobic tweets and comments in stand-ups made by the actor a decade ago came to light.
“Whatever little hope I have, I want to destroy right now. These shows are not good for comedy. There is no chance for Oscarwith no chance for Golden Globe or anything else”, clarified the actor in an interview with Sky News (via Variety).
“These awards shows are no longer friendly spaces for comedy. I think they got it right in a year where it was like a bunch of personalities acting as the hosts and that’s cool. It’s a collaborative thing, different people are responsible for the first act, second, third… But the days when awards were a place for comedy are over”, he added.
Harthowever, praised colleagues who held the position of presenter and cited Chris Rock: “Applause to those who cracked the code and did it from the beginning: the Chris Rocks of life, the Billy Crystals of life, the girls we had as Tina Fey, Amy Poehler. Ricky Gervais“.
“It’s not the show it used to be. It’s a lot of pressure on the idea of āācomedy, what are jokes and what aren’t jokes. So, it’s difficult,” he added.
