Nantes: Nazi flags deployed during the filming of a series challenge passers-by

Filming of the series “Deep” in Nantes provokes reactions

They could have used green backgrounds, but they preferred real settings: in Nantes, the facade of the Graslin theater was decorated with two giant Nazi flags for the purposes of filming a series set during the Second World War, this Monday 29 January. A show that obviously did not leave passers-by indifferent, as these images taken on site reveal:

In the video below we note that there are also actors dressed as SS men, armed with weapons. A setting that sends shivers down your spinejust two days after the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz camp.

Some passers-by found the movie sets tricky to look at, as revealed 20 minutes, which gave the floor to the residents of the area. We can read like this:

“I know it’s for a movie, but showing these large symbols… makes me uncomfortable, especially considering the context”

“Fortunately we were warned by newspaper articles. But even if we know it’s cinema, it’s scary”

An OCS series

These settings, which returned Nantes to Nazi occupation for a few hours, were created for the needs of the series. Deep, produced by Mediawan and OCS. It is directed by Aurélien Molas, who cut his teeth on Netflix with the ambitious series The revolutionbroadcast in October 2020, which reviewed the French Revolution through a fantastical prism.

This time, history mixed with fantasy is still at the heart of the subject, as the series follows a group of young soldiers who attempt to steal a German submarine while the Allies are losing to Hitler. Once there, they discover that the submarine is actually a machine that allows them to go back in time. Deep, which does not yet have a release date, is described as “an action-adventure fantasy comedy set during World War II.”
