The screenwriter would be one of three professionals in negotiations for the job of showrunner of the new adaptation of the book franchise written by J.K. Rowlingwhich was announced in April 2023 and promises to faithfully adapt, over a period of ten years, the seven books released by the author between 1997 and 2007.
Previously, the saga Harry Potter was adapted into eight films, released between 2001 and 2011. Years later, the franchise even received a sequel in the theater, Harry Potter and the Cursed Childand a prequel in theaters, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themplanned to be a pentalogy, but with only three films released to date.
Still without a release date scheduled, the new adaptation of Harry Potter will feature Rowling as executive producer, with the aim that the new film is as faithful as possible to the original material, despite the controversies in which the writer has been involved in recent years, such as her strong campaign against transgender people.
In October last year, inclusive, Rowling she even said that she would be happy to be arrested for transphobia: “I would happily accept serving two years if the alternative were [aceitar] the forced discourse and denial of the reality and importance of sex”wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Go to court, I encourage it.
