Friends: a deputy mentions the cult series…

The first motion of censure against Gabriel Attal’s government was widely rejected by the National Assembly this Monday 5 February. This motion was tabled by Nupes on January 30, 2024. He aimed to sanction the Prime Minister for not calling for a vote of confidence after his general policy statement. Only 124 MPs voted in favor of the motion, far from the 289 votes needed for its adoption.

During the various interventions of the majority deputies, Caroline Abadie, Renaissance deputy for the 8th constituency of Isère, thought it appropriate to mention the cult series Friends to defend his group’s vote in favor of Gabriel Attal. Thus, during his speech, he confided:

“As the late Chandler Bing said with great self-deprecation: It’s not what you say! It’s how you say it!”

…and it’s wrong

In addition to confusing the character and his interpreter (it was Matthew Perry who left us, not Chandler), Caroline Abadie also made a mistake in attributing this phrase to the latter, when it was Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) who said it in episode 8 of season 11. An error that many Internet users were quick to spot.

Remember, in this episode of Friends, Joey shares his apartment with his new roommate, Janine (Elle Macpherson). Upon contact with him, she begins to do activities that she didn’t do before, such as knitting or gardening, which triggers Chandler’s teasing, who tells him that he is “turning into a woman”. Joey then tells him that he is bad, and that it’s not what he says, but the way he says it, before exclaiming “oh my God! I’m a woman!”.

Furthermore FriendsCaroline Abadie also cited a cult line by Jean-Claude Dusse (Michel Blanc) from Tanned people go skiing. Well almost.
