Miniseries tells the story of Dexter and Emma over a period of 20 years, always on July 15th, for a very specific reason
One dayminiseries based on the novel of the same name by David Nicholls, is now available on Netflix. The production tells the story of the friends Dexter (Leo Woodall, The White Lotus) It is Emma (Ambika Mod, This Is Going to Hurt), who are in love with each other, do not stay together at first, but maintain contact for years.
Anyone who has read the book Nicholls or watched the first adaptation of the story, a film released in 2011 with Anne Hathaway (The miserable) It is Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe), knows that the story has a very controversial ending and, in the new adaptation, Netflix even considered changing it. The information was revealed by the showrunner and executive producer nicole taylor in an interview with EEntertainment Weekly.

In One day, we follow the story over a period of twenty years, but always on July 15th. At the end of the story, we discover that the date marks the day on which Emma suffered a traffic accident and ended up dying, tragically ending the love story. Second Taylorthe idea of changing this ending was taken to the author of the story:
“I didn’t feel pressured to change the ending or keep it. I just wanted to interview him again to find out his place in the story. Once you get that out of the way, you better have something as good, if not better, in terms of the meaning of the plot as a whole and the enduring cosmic nature of love and friendship and how your entire life can be defined by chance.”explained the showrunner.
Taylor also said that, despite the frustration of some readers, she understands that the event is important for the development of the narrative of One day: “Some people think it’s a terrible thing to do in this kind of novel, that it breaks the genre in a way that’s frustrating for readers. So I’m aware that to some people it seems like a trick or a cheat or something. For me, it was the starting point of the book.”clarified…
“The story is about a day that seems ordinary. Why are we seeing this day? It’s a pretty eventful day, but why aren’t we seeing the day they get married? Why aren’t we seeing them at Christmas? Why aren’t we seeing all these other things they talk about? Ah, the reason we’re seeing this day is because of that”he concluded.
