Jurassic World: the dinosaurs return (again)
The saga Jurassic it is one of the most cult films in the history of cinema. After Steven Spielberg’s original 1993 film, numerous sequels were released and a new trilogy emerged. Now called Jurassic worldthe saga therefore has two trilogies to its credit, and nearly six billion dollars in global box office receipts. A huge financial windfall for Universal Studios, which has not deprived itself of dinosaurs for a long time.
So, while we thought that their story was really over after the release of the third part of the trilogy Jurassic world baptized The world after in June 2022 the studio announced a fourth film. And things didn’t drag on for long as the feature film will be released in the summer of 2025. According to initial information, it will be a new reboot and not a sequel to the previous work. We should therefore not cross paths with the protagonists of the two trilogies and discover new faces.
Things are already getting complicated
If we still don’t know anything about the plot of this new film we will call you for the moment Jurassic World 4however, we know that it is David Koepp, the screenwriter of Jurassic Park, who is in charge of writing it. An information quite reassuring for fans of the franchise, and which should raise the level of the latest film written by Colin Trevorrow.
However, things are already complicated for the film with David Leitch’s meteoric departure. The latter was in fact announced at the time of production, before leaving the ship last week for alleged “artistic controversies”. And the problem seems deeper, based on information shared by The Hollywood journalist.
In fact, Universal Studios is reportedly looking not for a visionary, but for a docile executor to direct the fourth entry in the Jurassic World series. A source from the newspaper would have simply decreed that Universal “is not able to take new ideas into consideration”, thus underlining a certain urgency linked to the scheduling of the film’s release. The imminent release date it would therefore impose strong constraints on the creative process, limiting the possibilities of exploring new areas to enrich the Jurassic World universe.
This strategy, although economically understandable in the context of a film industry increasingly oriented towards profit and the repetition of proven formulas, does not fail to arouse concerns among fans of the franchise, already well proven by the catastrophic third part of the Jurassic World saga.
It therefore seems that Universal Studios’ decision not to open up to new ideas for Jurassic World 4 it is motivated by a commercial logic aimed at maximizing return on investments without necessarily taking creative risks.
What if the best news for the saga was that we finally left the dinosaurs alone?
