Rambo, one of Sylvester Stallone’s cult roles
With Rocky Balboa, John Rambo is one of the two most iconic roles in Sylvester Stallone’s filmography. The actor played the Vietnam War veteran five times. After playing him for the first time in a first film released in 1982 and which became a cult, he gave his last interpretation (which will undoubtedly remain his last) as this character in Last bloodpresented in 2019.
Now we wait to know what will become of John Rambo. Will Stallone return in a new work? Will another actor replace him in a prequel or remake? ? This hypothesis has been regularly raised in recent years. If it actually comes to fruition, many actors would have to compete for the role. But, on his part, Stallone has a very specific idea for his possible successor. And it should surprise more than one person.
Ryan Gosling to succeed him?
As reported ScreenrantStallone recently revealed during an interview that if he were replaced by another actor in the role of Rambo, he would like this actor to be… Ryan Gosling! The man who also plays Rocky has since explained this choice on the set of Jimmy Fallon. He revealed that he simply is Gosling’s passion for the character was behind this decision :
“I met him in a restaurant. And he said to me, ‘I’m still fascinated by Rambo. I even went to school dressed as Rambo and people chased me, but I kept going and even went on holiday as Rambo.’ He kept saying that he had this strong affiliation with Rambo. And I thought, “That’s interesting.” If I ever pass the baton one day, I’ll pass it to him because he loves the character.’ »
As mentioned above, we imagine this choice will surprise more than one Rambo fan. But Stallone obviously wants it his successor has a real affection for the character if a new version of his story sees the light.
What future for the character?
The question is therefore whether Rambo will really return in the form of a prequel about the youth of the man left traumatized by the Vietnam War. Or a remake. Currently, the character’s future remains uncertain. But it is far from impossible that the producers would try to revive the franchise given its success. If that were the case, there is no doubt that Gosling’s name would be one of the most mentioned to land the lead role.
