A documentary on the court idol

We owe the English filmmaker three documentaries which have achieved great success: Seine in 2010, the AMy in 2015 and Diego Maradona in 2019. An ideal pedigree to support the story of the last 12 days of Roger Federer’s immense career.

The king’s farewell

Winner of 20 Grand Slam tournaments, 6 Masters and 28 Masters 1000, for a total of 103 singles titles won, Roger Federer holds numerous records and has established himself as one of the greatest tennis players in history, indeed the best. A status that he has long disputed with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, the other two “monsters” of 21st century football.

The documentary that will be dedicated to him does not yet have a title, but we know the topic: the 12 days preceding his retirement, announced on September 15, 2022. The footage was filmed during this time, but was originally not supposed to leave the former tennis player’s house. This explains it :

Initially, the idea was to capture the last moments of my career, which I could then show to my family and friends. Throughout my career I have tended to avoid cameras around me and my family, especially at important moments. But there I didn’t see the harm in filming these images, as they were not intended for the public.

However, we filmed many powerful moments and it all turned into a deep personal adventure. I am delighted to partner with Prime Video, which has a very large audience and significant presence in the film industry. This ensures that the story of my final tennis days resonates with both tennis fans and the wider public around the world.

His adversaries and friends bear witness to this

At the height of his glory, Roger Federer had only a few serious rivals, with whom he formed the “The big fourA name given to the Swiss Roger Federer, the Spanish Rafael Nadal, the Serbian Novak Djokovic and the English Andy Murray. Together, they won all Grand Slam tournaments between Roland-Garros 2005 and US Open 2013with the exception of the 2009 US Open won by Juan Martin del Potro against Roger Federer.

Nadal, Djokovic and Murray will appear in this documentary to provide their testimonies. The film’s release is scheduled for July, to coincide with the 2024 edition of Wimbledon, Roger Federer’s “favourite” tournament, which he won 8 times.
