Tron 3: a first image for the long-awaited film has finally been revealed

Tron: a visionary saga that lasted over forty years

The Tron saga is an iconic science fiction franchise that began with the original film Tron in 1982, directed by Steven Lisberger. This first film was a technological revolution at the time of its release. It tells the story of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), a talented video game programmer, who fights to prove that his creations were stolen by Ed Dillinger (David Warner), the corrupt president of ENCOM.

After being fired, Flynn attempts to hack into ENCOM’s system to find evidence, but is digitized by the MCP (Master Control Program), a tyrannical artificial intelligence, and sent into ENCOM’s digital world. Inside, Flynn allies himself with Tron, a security program, to defeat MCP and SARK, his lieutenant. The film pioneered the use of computer-generated special effects, fusing traditional animation and digital imagery, but also for its cutting-edge themes such as artificial intelligence and virtual worlds.

Nearly three decades later, the saga has been revived Tron: Legacy, directed by Joseph Kosinski. This film released in 2011 follows Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), Kevin Flynn’s son, who also finds himself sucked into the digital world where his father has been missing for 20 years. Inside, Sam discovers that his father has been trapped in this world all this time, facing new threats and a digital clone of his younger father named Clu, who tries to invade the real world.
