KPop Demon Hunters exploded viewing scores on Netflix. Benefiting from crazy popularity, it has become the most watched film of all time on the platform. And from afar. The directors are ready for a sequel…
Of course, the idea ofa sequel From Kpop Demon Hunters was immediately mentioned after the sensational start of the film on Netflix. The directors of the feature film, Maggie Kang AND Chris Appelhanshe recently expressed himself on the subject during an interview with the BBC. The first made it clear that it wasn’t there “nothing official to talk about” regarding this sequel. But the second then blurted out the following sentence:
We can definitely do more things with these characters in this world.

It’s no surprise that the continuation of KPop Demon Hunters it should therefore actually see the light. And Maggie Kang promises that it will live up to expectations: “Whatever it is, “It will be a story worthy of a sequel and something we want to see.”.
…but not a live action adaptation
As we reported last August, The casing had assured at that time that Netflix wanted to significantly expand the universe of KPop Demon Huntersespecially offering fans a live adaptation. But Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans do not support this idea. During the BBC interview, the director was categorical on the subject:
There are so many elements in terms of tone and comedy that are really made for animation. It’s very difficult to imagine these characters in a live action world. For me, it absolutely wouldn’t work.
Chris Appelhans supported Maggie Kang’s comments. The director explained that animation offers more possibilities than live action. For him, “the joy of animation is seeing how far we can push ourselves and elevate what is possible”. He concluded by explaining that many live action adaptations of animated films would appear “a little stiff”.
The two directors are therefore clearly not willing to tackle a live action remake of KPop Demon Hunters. It remains to be seen whether Netflix will still try to realize this idea with other directors or will abandon it.
