“I Want Better” is Kevin Johansen’s new albuma captivating and unique work, with varied rhythms and styles that reflect the different facets of the singer-songwriter’s musical personality.
The singles that paved the way for the album’s release were the romantic and autobiographical “Vals de la luna”, and the enveloping and catchy “Puntos equidistantes”, with the sweet voice of the great Mexican artist Natalia Lafourcade.
“I Want Better” is Kevin’s first album with original songs in 5 yearsand plunges into the confusions and certainties of love and the search for personal and social harmony over material and immediate ambitions.
“A good song knows how to wait, like the fisherman; and as a songwriter, I look for that patience,” Kevin explained.
And he added: “Similarly, there are infinite ways, but there are three fundamental ways of writing songs: good, bad or like Charly García. I’m still working on the third…”
In total, they are 11 titlesall their own, with the exception of the song “Amada lover”, by the historic composition duo Roberto Carlos/Erasmo Carlos, here slowed down by a delicious and intimate ballad, played with great session musicians from Brazil.
The song that opens and gives its name to the album is a very danceable rumba, with vocals, clapping, guitars and violin from the Spanish group Las Migas, which won the 2022 Latin Grammy® for best flamenco album .
Enjoy…
