The sense of celebration, directed by Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache and released in 2017, is a French comedy-drama that explores the behind-the-scenes of a wedding from the point of view of the organizer, Max, played by Jean-Pierre Bacri. This role is one of the actor’s last before his death in January 2021.

The film immerses viewers in the world of this seasoned restaurateur with thirty years of experience organizing events. On the eve of what seems like just another wedding in his long career, Max finds himself facing a daunting challenge: orchestrating a lavish celebration in a 17th-century castle for Pierre and Héléna. With his expertise, Max meticulously prepared the eventhiring a team of waiters, cooks and dishwashers, taking care of details such as photography, music and floral decorations, to ensure a memorable party.

However, despite his efforts and experience, Max and his team will soon discover that even the best laid plans can be subject to unexpected events. What was supposed to be an elegant and controlled celebration gradually turns into a series of unexpected twists, testing their ability to manage the chaos while maintaining focus on the primary goal: the success of the party.

The rest of the cast includes Gilles Lellouche, Eye Haïdara, Alban Ivanov and Benjamin Lavernhe.

At the box office, The sense of celebration was a great success, totaling more than three million viewers on French soil. He was also nominated ten times for the César Awards.
