Furies: the new French event series from Netflix
Series Furies is the new French original creation from Netflix. Led by Marina Foïs and Lina El Arabi, this action-packed new show takes place in Paris. Lyna, a young woman, seeks to avenge her father’s death, and discovers the existence of the Fury, a guardian charged with maintaining order within Olympus, who designates the six families at the head of Parisian organized crime. Then he starts looking for her, to avenge his father’s murder. But she quickly falls into the infernal spiral that surrounds Olympus and the Furies and risks her life every minute.
The eight episodes chronicle Lyna’s struggle to discover the truth about her family as she is chosen to become the new Fury. The series ends with a cliffhanger, which clearly gives a hint about the creators’ desire to release a second season.
A public card
Coming to Netflix this Friday, March 1, Furies has already established itself at the top of the Netflix Top 10 in France. Its refined production and global ambition should appeal beyond our borders, as it has Lupine before her.
The final minutes of the series seem to indicate that a season 2 is already being considered. Recall that the six Olympian families have been eliminated, and that a small group called Damocles now reigns over Paris. In the final moments of the final episode, we discover the head of Damocles, from behind, making it clear to Lyna and Selma that they will now work for him.
But an open ending doesn’t necessarily mean that Netflix, which is very picky about its shows, will order a season 2. However, the good start of season 1 could quickly lead the platform to quickly announce a season 2 Furies. In fact, as Fanny Herrero, the creator of the series, confided Funit is the listening results of the first few days that determine the renewal (or not) of a Netflix series.
So let’s keep our fingers crossed that this success will be confirmed and give rise to a season 2 of Furies.
What we might see in the second season of Furies
Many questions still remain unanswered at the end of the first season Furies. The first is obviously to know who is hiding behind Damocles and what his leader’s intentions are. So, we are still waiting to find out the truth about Lyna’s mother, who is still alive and hiding somewhere.
If Lyna wishes to find her, she also knows that Selma tried to kill her 25 years ago, and massacred his entire family. The relationships between the two women will therefore prove complicated if they are brought to work together, and at the same time to look for Kahina, Lyna’s mother, for very different reasons.
Finally, if Selma seems to have killed Driss (Mathieu Kassovitz), the series has taught us to distrust appearances. What if he was still alive?
