A solid audience for Plague on France 2
France 2 launched the first episodes of its event series this Monday 4 March 2024 Plague. An ambitious program that freely adapts the work of Albert Camus. In fact, if the novel published in 1947 was set in Oran in the 1940s, the authors Gilles Taurand and Georges-Marc Benamou transposed the action to 2030 in an imaginary city. The plot remains closed since it is abouta variant of the plague bacillus which will spread throughout the city. The government will then seal off the area, even if it means creating panic and violence.

With its solid cast, composed among others of Frédéric Pierrot, Hugo Becker, Sofia Essaïdi and Pascale Arbillot, Plague attracted audiences en masse. With an average of 3.1 million viewers, equal to 17% of the audience, the channel seems to have won the bet. TF1 comes immediately behind, with 2.6 million viewers, equal to a 15% share.

The most important for Plague, is that the audience remained after the first episode aired. We remember the failure of Cannes Criminal Police which saw TF1 lose almost 1 million viewers between the first and second episodes. In the case of the France 2 fiction, the decline was minimal. Which should indicate that audiences have embraced the series. However, during the broadcast, we could see virulent reactions on (formerly Twitter). Even though #ThePlague found itself trending online, there was a lot of criticism. As we can see from the posts below, writing the series was strongly identified. Both in terms of dialogue and coherence of the story.
Difficult to identify the amount of negative reviews on Plague. And we would like to point out that some posts have expressed positive opinions. The fact remains that, on X, the majority did not seem convinced. But the important thing for France 2 will be to see if the audience will still be there for the last two episodes. They will air on Monday 11 March.
