If we often tend to favor VOST, in the case of GTO, the VF is truly worth discovering. In addition to the brilliant performances of Benoît Du Pac (Onizuka), Sybille Tureau (Fuyutsuki) Olivier Korol (Kunio Murai) or even Christelle Reboul (Urumi Kanzaki), it is the adaptation, as a whole, which is funny, with very local expressions and insults. Proof with this excerpt below which includes this line from Urumi Kanzaki: “He’s stupid about eating hay, a bit of a simpleton, and a total obsessive. How could we accept this social rubble in education?“
A cult manga and anime
Created by Tōru Fujisawa, Great Master Onizuka (GTO), is originally a manga. Composed of 25 volumes, published between 1997 and 2002, gave rise to an animated version in 1999. It is for this reason that, even if the initial plot is the same, the ending is different. But it doesn’t matter, as the anime is a pure marvel of comedy, consisting of 43 episodes.
So we follow Eikichi Onizuka, a 22 year old delinquent who doesn’t know what to do with his life. A beautiful day, decides to become a teacher, imagining that the entrance exam will be easy and that, once in office, he will be able to pick up high school girls. Only reality will be different, since the only school that opens its doors to him, despite his lack of diploma and his combative past, is that of Mrs. Sakurai. The latter intends to entrust it to him the worst class in his school : the 3rd 4.

These are therefore middle school students who are difficult to manage, and who have already pushed several teachers to burn out, who find themselves facing Onizuka. Except the new teacher doesn’t have traditional teaching methods, and his behavior will disconcerte the kids in his class. But above all he will do it Earn their respect by showing your values. It is important to underline that, behind his perverted appearance, Onizuka remains a righteous man. A hero who never reaches the limit of his excesses and who, on the contrary, fights harassment (from his meeting with Fuyutsuki). He is also ready to do anything for his students. This allows for the manga and anime GTO go beyond simple comedy, but highlight a society in which young people have been abandoned by adults (see our article).
