During podcast interview Happy Sad Confused, Mark Wahlberg revealed how he was originally going to play another character – and that’s why he got “annoyed.”

“I was a little upset about some things, but hey, it all worked out in the end, I guess. Originally I was supposed to play another role. Originally, I was supposed to get paid,” he said. However, the artist did not reveal who this other character would be.

“And so, even when we agreed that I would interpret Dignam and I saw the advantages of playing this role and how I would approach the situation with everyone else acting alongside me, I had another movie after,” he continued. “I tried to grow my hair out, and that’s why I had that weird hair. You know, everyone’s like, what was that wig about? I thought, it wasn’t a wig, I was just trying to grow my hair for the next movie.”

Right away, Mark Wahlberg commented on how he better understands the point of view of Martin Scorsese and why he got the role of Sergeant Sean Dignam.

“I understand perfectly well where Marty he came. He had to deal with Jackhe had to deal with Matt, Leo It is Alec [Baldwin] and everything in the studio and everyone else that was in the cast, and then I was supposed to be in and out in five weeks,” he said. “And then I went to film Invincible (2006), I got my hair extensions, came back and then they said, ‘Oh, you need to take the extensions out.’ I thought: ‘[Essa] Shit took eight hours. I’m not going to take it away.’ We had some problems.”

Originally, I was thinking, ‘Okay, we need to make this as realistic and credible as possible. It’s Boston, it’s gangster s***.’ You don’t see many of these films. And I was thinking about the bigger picture, not necessarily about my own individual goals or even the opportunity for myself as an actor. So when I read the paper again, I thought, ‘Okay, there’s something here.’
