Sister Act: behind the scenes of the cult comedy
Published in 1992, Sister Act is one of the most cult comedies of the 90s. The plot follows the adventures of Deloris Van Cartier (Whoopi Goldberg), a cabaret singer, in a relationship with a gangster, who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when her lover has someone killed before her eyes. Feeling in danger, she goes to the police who convince her to let her boyfriend testify against her.
But to protect her while awaiting trial, the lieutenant decides to have her assume a new identity and send her to a convent in San Francisco. There she became Sister Marie-Clarence, and becomes friends with the nuns at the establishment. To keep him busy, Mother Superior (played by Maggie Smith) gives him responsibility for the choir.
