“The same person who made us work in cinema”
We met Franck Gastambide on the occasion of the release of The wages of fear on Netflix. Among other peculiarities, this film brings together Julien Leclercq and Franck Gastambide. A collaboration desired and awaited by their respective fans, which would finally bring them together in an action film. Julien Leclercq first told us: “Franck and I have known each other for 20 years and wanted to work together. And I was interested in directing Franck. He trusted me on this.”
The director did not go further on his relationship with the actor – and also director -, but Franck Gastambide told him something more, revealing in particular the reason why his character inside The wages of fear his name is “Fred”. And this name is an important part of the homage.
For the record, some know, I started going to film sets because I trained animals. Also Julien Leclercq. And he is the same person who made us work in cinema. This person left us and his name was Fred. That’s why he gave me that name in the movie.

Converging cinemas
Beyond this very personal reference to Julien Leclercq and Franck Gastambide, gift to the person who allowed them to debut, he then explains that their worlds are very close and have revolved around each other for a long time.
“That We had been “sniffing” each other for a long time, both him as a director and me as an actor, but also as directors. While he was preparing “Prost”, I was shooting “Taxi”, we have very common references, we are big fans of Stallone, of 80s cinema, there he bought a Rocky pinball machine and I bought the same one… We are very close in terms of the universe, to this Hollywood popcorn cinema. I think we both love what we do. When I proposed this film, it’s very easy because I’d like to play “baskets” over-sized, you’ll lie if you know that the psychology of the person is so famous as to what you’ve seen propose. I think it was the right project for us to be together.
