100 million dollars, 35 years in the making: this ambitious western will have an event in Cannes



Kevin Costner will present his new great western at Cannes

Kevin Costner has always been very attached to westerns. Through the peak successes of him, such as Dancing with Wolves (Oscar for best film and best director) or even Open field, tried to capture the essence of America, its origins, its flaws and its legends. With the western he mixes the themes that are close to his heart, such as his political or ecological commitmentdepicting stories that explore the complexities of the human soul and society.

In recent years we can find him in front of the camera in westerns, with series YellowstoneAND Hatfields and McCoysfor which he also takes on the role of producer.

But he has been working since 1988 an immense cinematic frescobaptized Horizon: An American Saga. Divided into four chapters condensed into two films, the first part will finally arrive in France this summer, after appearing at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19, where it will have its world premiere.

The conquest of the West seen by Costner

This new $100 million western, in which he plays the lead role alongside Sienna Miller, is concerned with the conquest of the American West. It takes place over fifteen yearsbefore and after the Civil War, the film will particularly evoke the interactions between the settlers and the indigenous populations who lived on these lands.

In a press release released by the Cannes Film Festival, Kevin Costner confided that he was working on this saga for 35 years, and that “he couldn’t dream of a better place than the Cannes Film Festival to reveal to the world the result of such a beautiful adventure”. She also wanted to thank the French public for their unconditional support of him:

The French have always supported cinema and believed deeply in cinema. As deeply as I believe in my film…

said Kevin Costner.
