Joker 2 : a highly anticipated sequel
Five years have passed since the incredible success of Joker (2019). Worn by Joaquin Phoenixthe thriller centered on Arthur Fleck before he became Batman’s nemesis, he had reported more than $1 billion in revenue worldwide. A figure that has all the characteristics of an anomaly since it is more a psychological drama than a superhero blockbuster. Furthermore, the feature film only cost $55 million.
As a result, Warner Bros. decided to order a sequel from Todd Phillips, returning to direct it Joker: Folie a Deux. Given the success of the first work, the director managed to sell a surprising project. In fact, it was immediately announced that the feature film will be a musical, with at least fifteen reinterpretations of famous songs. A very different atmosphere therefore and a big risk taken by Warner Bros. who would do it this time spent at least 200 million dollars. The salaries of Joaquin Phoenix (20 million dollars) and Lady Gaga (12 million dollars) have increased the bill, but that’s not all. Because it’s the whole universe and aesthetic that changes, as we can see the first trailer.
A fantastic trailer
The study just revealed it the first promotional video (on the first page of an article). The opportunity to discover Lady Gaga as Harleen Frances Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn. The singer and actress thus takes the place of Margot Robbie, who had played her character in previous films (such as Birds of prey AND The suicide squad). We see in these images the meeting of the two emblematic characters of the DC universe, while the young woman is also interned. Together they will support each other and create an entire universe of musical performances.
This is exactly what we expected from this trailer, to glimpse the musical comedy aspect that the film will have. Music is the visual ideas are there, while we visibly move from fantasy to reality when the two protagonists dance together. But the union of Joker and Harley should above all lead to even more chaos in the streets. It is difficult to know at the moment whether certain passages will take place outside Arkham or whether it will be the fruit of Arthur Fleck’s imagination.
