Stephen Curry to Host the ESPY Awards

After winning his fourth NBA championship and being named Finals MVP, Stephen Carr is not out of season. The Golden State Warriors star has been signed by Capital One to host ESPYS on July 20 in Los Angeles.

The show, his first major live televised event, coincides with Curry’s three individual ESPY nominations this year, including Best Athlete in Men’s Sports, Best Record Performance (for most 3-pointers in NBA history) and Best player in the NBA. He is also nominated for Best Team with his Golden State Warriors.

“I had the pleasure of participating in ESPYS, but I could not have imagined that I would have the privilege of hosting this special event,” Karim said in a statement. “As someone who loves the intersection of sports and entertainment, I look forward to putting on an engaging show for fans before celebrating the athletes who created the best moments of the year.

Rob King, CEO of ESPN Content, said the team was delighted that Curry joined this year, calling him “one of the brightest stars in the sports constellation”. King added, “Whether he shines on the field, engages with fans on social platforms, or shows loyalty to the community through various charitable activities, he is a unique artist who is sure to add splendor to this year’s most exciting moments.”

ESPYS is a joint production of ESPN and Full Day Prods. As part of the door-to-door hosting deal, his partner at Unanimous Media, Eric Peyton, will join the show as an executive producer. The couple and their team unanimously signed a global partnership with Comcast NBCUniversal last fall.
