Superhero in spite of himself: this injury to Philippe Lacheau interrupted filming

Superhero in spite of himself : Philippe Lacheau injured shortly before filming

With Philippe Lacheau it was possible to realize a true childhood dream Superhero in spite of himself (2022), that of turning into a superhero. Well, not completely. Because, as always, the actor and his group approached this genre through the prism of comedy. Thus, we discover for the first time in the film a struggling actor named Cédric. By some miracle, the actor manages to get the main role ofa superhero movie. Except that, after borrowing his character’s costume, he becomes the victim of a car accident that shocks his memory. Seeing himself in costume, he imagines himself to be a real vigilante who must maintain order.

We find next to Philippe Lacheau, Elodie Fontan, Julien Arruti and Tarek Boudali, accompanied in particular by the very nice Alice Dufour. With this fifth result (counting i Babysitter co-directed with Nicolas Benamou), the director once again attracted a large audience. When it came out in cinemas, Superhero in spite of himself I had it almost reached 2 million subscribers. A good score, although well below the success it was Alibi.com 2 in 2023 with more than 4 million registrations! The fact remains that Philippe Lacheau can be satisfied with it, especially since the filming wasn’t just fun.

As he explained in the film’s press kit, the actor and director was victim of an accident, even before filming. It was in fact playing football with friends that she became the star of the film. a torn calf muscle. It was impossible for him to fully recover before the start of filming, which was to take place a few weeks later. The production then had to revise his plans and postpone the filming of the action scenes until later. The more “quiet” sequences were then shot first, while Philippe Lacheau was still on crutches. Then, with the help of his physiotherapist, the actor managed to get back on his feet to perform in scenes in which we see him running and making physical efforts.

A parody of Batman rather than Jason Bourne

Knowing this, we tell ourselves that Philippe Lacheau was right to rethink the concept of Superhero in spite of himself. Because before embarking on a superhero movie diversion, the director he was thinking of parodying the saga Jason Bourne. Likewise, the feature film would have featured an actor who gets into a car accident while filming a spy film, before being mistaken for a real agent. Without a doubt, such a project could have included more action scenes. But Philippe Lacheau ultimately felt that the spy genre risked being too dark unlike the superhero universe which can easily lean towards lightness (even if films of this genre are particularly dark).

Philippe Lacheau then donned his superhero costume to play Batman. And as for his predecessors who played Bruce Wayne, the costume was not easy to put on as he said:

This type of costume is thick and time-consuming to put on, because as I learned while preparing the project, all American actors who play superheroes wear a Lycra bodysuit with fake foam musculature under their suits. This is crucial because these stretchy, form-fitting suits compress the flesh and volume of real muscles. Luckily the costume designers took great care of me and slipped some frozen chamois under my dress to cool me down.
