Marvel: Michael Douglas wanted an explosive death in Ant-Man 3

The death that Michael Douglas wanted Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Michael Douglas has clearly grown tired of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Present in it ever since Ant man (2015) where he plays Hank Pymcontinued the adventure in 2018 with Ant-Man and the Waspand 2023 with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. His character also appeared in Avengers: Endgame (2019). Four Marvel Studios productions, including three adventures dedicated to Scott Langit would therefore have been enough for the actor who would have even preferred to leave this universe in a tragic way.

Already, a year ago, Michael Douglas had said he was ready to return to a Ant-Man 4only provided that his character dies. What seemed like a joke was actually very serious, according to his recent speech on The sight (through EW). According to the actor this request would have arrived as early as the third work, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. But it’s not about going out the back door. To greet Hank Pym, Michael Douglas wanted to amaze spectators with a shower of special effects.

I asked to be killed in the third movie. I said I would like to have a serious (death), with all these cool special effects. There has to be some awesome way to shrink me down to the size of an ant and make me explode no matter what. I would like to use all these effects.

Hank Pym should not return to the MCU

This request from Michael Douglas obviously went unheeded by director Peyton Reed and screenwriter Jeff Loveness. At the end ofAnt-Man 3, all’s well that ends well for Scott and his family. After defeating Kang, he reunites with Hope, Janet and Hank to celebrate his daughter Cassie’s missed birthday. This then went away an open door on a Ant-Man 4 or an involvement of the characters in other MCU productions. For the moment, a fourth work has not been announced. Especially since Quantimania n/a it was not the expected success, with only $476 million in worldwide box office revenue. But if Marvel Studios were to launch a new film, Michael Douglas says they would do it without him: “I don’t think I’ll come (for a fourth film)“.
