Napoleona film targeted by many critics
Ridley Scott likes to make films set in different historical periods. The last example is his Napoleon, released late last year. The British filmmaker therefore took an interest in one of the most important figures of the 19th century, offering his vision of the rise and fall of the former emperor, as well as the latter’s relationship with Joséphine de Beauharnais.
Upon his exit, Napoleon divided. If the film even had good reviews, many pointed fingers its numerous historical inaccuracies. As a reminder, shortly before its release, a historian noticed several errors in the film’s trailer, before Ridley Scott responded to him. But this time it is the protagonist of the feature film who has recently been violently criticized.
Brian Cox without mercy for Joaquin Phoenix
Brian Cox, best known for his role as Logan Roy in Succession, was recently at HistFest in London. As reported by The standard of the eveninghe spoke in particular about Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in the role of Napoleon. And the least we can say is thishe wasn’t wearing gloves. The actor continued to sing his praises, assuring himwould have provided a much better performance as Napoleon Bonaparte: “I can tell you I would have played a lot better than this. » He also took TO lack of historicity from the movie: “You can say it’s a good drama. NO, these are lies. »
Brave heart he also takes it for his rank
Napoleon It’s not the only film about a historical figure to have faced criticism from Brian Cox. The latter he also shot red balls in a feature film in which he himself played a role: Brave heart. Again the target of his criticism was the film’s lack of authenticity: “Mel Gibson was great, but it’s a pack of lies. He never got the French princess pregnant. This is bullshit. »
