Disney fans were waiting for a sequel to Hocus Pocus since the scary classic was released in 1993. The next movie is finally confirmed , with most of the original cast resurrecting their magical characters. However, a folk hero will not be returning for the sequel.
weekly entertainment It is reported that Jason Marsden, the voice of Thackery Binx, will not be lending his vocal talent to Hocus Pocus 2. Binx was one of the first victims of the Sanderson sisters, who cursed him to live like a black cat for eternity after he failed to save his sister Emily from their draining spell. According to EW, Disney hasn’t denied Jason Marsden’s involvement. The information came from a “source close to the plaintiff”. The news came after fans spotted a black cat the trailer for Hocus Pocus 2 which fell earlier this week.
No explanation was given as to why Jason Marsden would not be returning Hocus Pocus 2, but his character was sent to the afterlife at the end of the first film. This makes it quite difficult for Binx to return, as he had already gone to light. Jason Marsden isn’t the only OG to approve the project: Thora Birch was originally supposed to play an adult Dani, but she had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. The other main characters from the first film, Allison and Max, are also not expected to appear in the sequel.
While fan favorite Binx will not be in attendance Hocus Pocus 2, there are many stars returning for fans. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy reprise their roles as Winifred, Sarah and Mary Sanderson respectively, making it more likely that viewers will be treated to another spectacular musical number. Additionally, Doug Jones will also reappear as Billy Butcherson, Winifred’s hapless ex-boyfriend who turned into a zombie (you’ve probably seen him as Amphibious Man in the shape of the water or Captain Saru inside Star Trek: Discovery).
In addition to the trio of witches, new cast members will include Hannah Waddingham (ted lasso), Tony Halle (veep), and Sam Richardson (the after party). The film will focus on three high school students who must work together to banish the Sanderson sisters from what is now Salem (yes, that Salem). Ghouls, ghosts and pranks certainly abound, even if Binx can’t be there to have fun.
