Tonight on TV: One of Chadwick Boseman’s last (and best) performances

The tragic fate of Chadwick Boseman

On August 28, 2020, Chadwick Boseman died of cancer at the age of 43. This terrible announcement comes as a shock to everyone, since the actor had chosen not to make public his illness, diagnosed in 2016. The public therefore understands that, since his diagnosis of cancer is already very advanced, he is among “countless surgeries and chemotherapy“, as indicated by the statement released by his family, that Chadwick Boseman made the films that made him famous (Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War) and those who dedicated his great talent, in particular From 5 Blood AND Ma Rainey’s blues.

For this last film, in which he plays a young jazz musician, he posthumously obtained the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama in 2021. Very popular thanks to his role as T’Challa / Black Panther in the MCU, Chadwick Boseman also stood out in other registers, and in particular in that of the crime thriller with a very solid performance in Blockade of Manhattan.

Chase in a confined Manhattan

Blockade of Manhattan is the second feature film directed by Brian Kirk, from a screenplay by Adam Mervis and Matthew Michael Carnahan, Joe’s brother to whom we owe in particular the screenplays of Power games, World War Z AND Mosul (who also directs). Around Chadwick Boseman we find in particular Sienna Miller and JK Simmons.

In New York, a shootout breaks out in a wine shop between two petty criminals looking for cocaine, Michael Trujillo and Ray Jackson, and several police officers tasked with arresting them. After shooting at the police officers, Jackson fled with Trujillo through the city streets. Inspector Andre Davis is immediately put in charge of the case, in particular for his ability to track down and even kill, but always in self-defense, according to him, the murderers of policemen. Assisted by detective Frankie Burns, Davis gets his boss to close all the bridges in New York to isolate the island of Manhattan in order to quickly capture the two fleeing men.

The case that detective Andre Davis (Chadwick Boseman) must solve is more complex than it seems Blockade of Manhattan he therefore turns out to be as nervous as he is intriguing honest and effective thriller, despite an unoriginal scenario. If the film unfolds its score mechanically and without surprises, the performance of Chadwick Boseman is still celebrated. First he wrote like this:

Chadwick Boseman is perfect in this B series of gunslingers that we like.

AND Cinema files stated, in the same note, that: “Chadwick Boseman is very good in this little action film, which is quite entertaining if unoriginal..”

A very successful performance for the actor, which is heartbreaking because it holds so much promise for his future career.
