Directed by Viviane Ferreira, the documentary is in the final stages of recording after traveling through 6 states in Brazil
Favela.doc is a documentary that addresses peripheral culture and music in Brazil, portraying the musical styles that often end up being more “overshadowed”, as well as the difficulties that these artists go through to conquer their space in the music market. With the end of recording on April 29, the project is expected to be released in 2025.
Directed by Viviane FerreiraO Favela.doc explores the essence of Brazilian peripheral music in the favelas and communities of six states in the country, seeking to give more visibility to funk, trap, samba, grime/drill, tecnobrega, bregafunk, R&B and pagode from Bahia. The production will be divided into eight episodes to represent this musical variety throughout the Brazilian states.
To end filming in São Paulo, the production brings the DJ Mu540 (Muzão), as the central figure of the episode. Born in Praia Grande, the young artist has stood out mainly in the São Paulo trap scene, and for covering elements of funk and rap.
“For me, directing the ‘Favela.doc‘ is a unique opportunity to give voice and visibility to peripheral communities and the artists who live in them. This project goes beyond portraying Brazilian music: it is a dive into the soul and creativity of the favelas, revealing the protagonism of these artists and the cultural richness they bring to the country.”, he says Viviane Ferreiraproject director.
During filming, the documentary investigates the origins and influences of each musical style, highlighting important figures from each community visited.
Some of the artists who contributed to the documentary were Deize Tigrona, NINA, TrapFunk&Alívio, Rayssa Dias, Maderito, Filhos de Dona Maria and duo Margaridas, each representing a style. The series is a collaboration between the agency A name and the Odun Filmsfinanced by Federal District Culture Support Fundwith Amanda Bittar It is Guilherme Tavares as executive producers.
