From the beginning of his film, Abdellatif Kechiche does not procrastinate and defines the framework of his story with a long and sensual erotic sequence which Amin, hidden behind a window, observes without being seen. A photographer, Amin is fascinated by the lights and colors of the Mediterranean coast from which he takes images. With Amin’s initially reserved and cautious gaze on the world, Abdellatif Kechiche then suggests how, through the gaze – and therefore through cinema – the most carnal sensations are born. From there, the shoulder-mounted camera moves towards the bodies of ordinary young people, liberated to varying degrees by the desire that drives them.
