Understand the post-credits scene of the last episode of X-Men ’97

The first season of the new version of X-Men, shown between 1992 and 1997, came to an end this Wednesday (15), leaving several questions hanging in the air

X-Men ’97sequel to the classic animation X-Men (1992-1997), ended its first season this Wednesday (15), but left many questions open for an already confirmed second year. Among them, a curious post-credits scene, which indicates the appearance of a major villain from the X-Men in the future.

The following text contains spoilers for “Tolerance is Extinction – Part 3”, the last chapter of the 1st season of X-Men ’97!

In the extra sequence, we return to a Genosha in ruins, after the destruction of the island by a Mega-Sentinel, which resulted in the death of several mutants. In the middle of the crater where Gambit Gave his life to save those still fighting for their lives, a mysterious figure is kneeling. “So much pain, my children. So much death”, it says. She then pulls out a playing card from the ashes and smiles, before the scene ends.

Although we never see the mysterious visitor’s full face, the sight of his mouth leads us to believe that it is Apocalypse, considered the first mutant in history. The playing card also makes a reference to Gambit, who used them as a vehicle for his powers. All of this suggests that, in the second year, the villain must resurrect the X-Man and recruit him as one of his Four Horsemen, placing himagainst his former friends.
