Announced 5 years ago, this Spider-Man spin-off series is finally cancelled

Before Spider-Man Noir, there was a Silk series

Fans of the universe of Spiderman we got some good news this week, as it was announceda live-action series centered on Spider-Man Noir (character present in Spider-Man: Next Generation) was in preparation with Nicolas Cage. Except that if this project got the green light from Amazon MGM Studios, an older one didn’t have the same luck. Almost five years ago we talked about the development ofIt’s a series about Silka young Korean-American woman who was introduced into the Spider-Man universe in 2014. But while she’s been somewhat forgotten over time, it seems like the project is finally dead and buried.

The idea of dedicating time to Silk wasn’t absurd, however. Remember that the character, real name Cindy Moonhad appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming AND Avengers: Infinity War, as Tiffany Espensen. She was only a secondary character then and Cindy was not yet endowed with power. This obviously wasn’t enough to motivate Amazon MGM Studios as, according to Expirationthe studio would have decided to keep costs down with the development of this show.

A development that lasted 5 years that produced nothing

The American media recall that the project was approved two years ago. Angela Kang (Walking Dead) worked there as showrunner, after taking the place occupied first by her by Lauren Moon, then by Tom Spezialy. We therefore understand it three scenarios were to be proposed in recent years without being able to fully satisfy Amazon MGM Studios. The studio still has the rights to develop series derived from the Spider-Man universe, but the Silk one would have been “made” at Sony Pictures Television who is currently trying to resell the project to someone else.

We can therefore always hope to one day see the superhero land on a platform other than Prime Video, why not through a collaboration with Disney+ and Marvel. But for now it’s best to deal with Silk’s fate.
