[Atenção: Contém spoilers de Stranger Things]

The last two episodes of the fourth season of Stranger Things (2016) reached the Netflix this Friday, the 1st, explaining one of the greatest mysteries of the Upside Down. The conclusion of this season showed Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) finally facing Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower)also known as Henry and 001.

In an attempt to help Max (Sadie Sink) and save the friend, Eleven face Henry, after discovering that he was also a test subject in Hawkins’ lab. For years, it was the subject of research and used in experiments by the Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine) to find Henry – since she’s the one who sent him to the Upside Down, as shown in part one of season four.

Now the series has shown how Henry “survived” in the Upside Down. “I saw so many things. And one day, I found the most extraordinary thing of all. Something that would change everything. I saw a way to fulfill my potential. To transcend my human form. To become the predator I was always born to be,” said Henry.

He began exploring the Upside Down and trying to find a way to get out of there and get revenge for what happened. Obsessed with spiders, he was inspired by the animal to create the mind flayerone of the main villains of the series, which haunted Will (Noah Schnapp). Also, he was the one in control of the Demogorgons.

In the second season, Henry used the mind flayer to own Will and spy on Hawkins, learning about what was happening in the city. However, he never saw Elevenas she was not in town this season, and when she returned, she immediately closed the portal that allowed the connection between the Upside Down and the real world.

But a part of him remained in Hawkins: that which is inside Will. The third season shows how Henry had not given up on the plan and found a new way to expand his powers, acquiring a physical form, this time made of blown-up body parts and the guts of rats and other residents.

In one of the scenes, you can see Billy (Drace Montgomery) speaking on behalf of mind flayerbut now it is possible to understand why he was so interested in Elevensince it was Henry behind it all. Despite Eleven be more prepared to fight him in season three, Henry “bites her” leaving a piece of him inside her.

When Eleven remove that piece, your powers disappear. Now, Henry explained that he was responsible for it. This bite helped him grow stronger, allowing him to start killing season four victims. With each death, a portal opens.

“I looked for a way to open my own doors,” said Henry The Eleven. “I sought your power. So don’t you see? Once again, you set me free.” The scene shows all previous attempts to Henry open a portal, always prevented by Eleven.

However, this time he succeeds, and by “killing” Max, the fourth portal opens, showing the devastating scene of a Hawkins completely “cracked” and destroyed, being practically swallowed by the Upside Down. In this way, the fourth season clarifies who was behind all the events until now was Henryas well as showing his motivations behind it.

Despite the explanation, there are still many questions to be answered and that will likely remain as a hook for the events of the fifth and final season.
