Cosmopolis: a turning point for Robert Pattinson
Revealed with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) as Cedric Diggory, Robert Pattinson then it really exploded the saga Dusk (2008-2012). The actor played the vampire Edward Cullen in five films in adaptations of Stephenie Meyer’s novels, which were successful at the global box office. In total, the saga has grossed more than 3.3 billion dollars worldwide! But many believe that these feature films, which tell the fantastic love story between Edward and Bella (Kristen Stewart), are not high-quality works.
For a long time, Robert Pattinson has been associated with this dark vampire role. His career could therefore have stagnated. Except today the actor’s image has changed, and has demonstrated that he knows how to put himself at the service of renowned authors. It was definitely the film that made the difference Cosmopolis (2012). With David Cronenberg directing, Robert Pattinson surprised, appearing the opposite of his previous roles and offering excellent results an excellent performance. We can now say that this film marked a turning point in his career, as it is from there that we saw the actor pursue a series of daring projects.

Thus renews the experience with David Cronenberg Maps to the stars (2014), before crossing paths with Werner Herzog for Queen of the desert (2015). Following The Lost City of Z From James Greya mind-blowing performance in Good time (2017) by the Safdie brothers, or even the High life by Claire Denis (2018). Then, Robert Eggers made his mark with The lighthouse (2019) e his “inspirational” masturbation scene.before Christopher Nolan trusted him Principle (2020) and that Warner Bros. validates it for The Batman (2022).
“The prostate exam worried me a little”
Robert Pattinson couldn’t have had all these important roles without it Cosmopolis. Presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012, the film is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Don DeLillo. We follow Eric Packer (Robert Pattinson), a young multi-billionaire traveling through New York in his limousine to attend various appointments. Except that his empire is collapsing with the end of capitalism. As chaos grows in the streets, Eric becomes increasingly paranoid and… he thinks he will be killed. Which is why she spends much of the film in her limousine, even going so far as to act a prostate exam by his doctor. A hilarious and surprising scene that worried Robert Pattinson before shooting it, as he explained in an interview with Progress :
It’s true that the prostate exam worried me a little. I was particularly panicked because David had warned me that I would be naked, bent over, with the camera between my legs. Horror. In fact he had announced the most extreme situation to me so that I could calm down at the right time. Five minutes before the shot he told me the truth.
This strange and difficult-to-access film by David Cronenberg delighted some critics, but disconcerted the public who probably expected something different from the presence of Robert Pattinson. ON AlloCiné, Cosmopolis has an average rating of 1.9/5 for viewersand of 3.6/5 for printing. But whether we like the proposal or not, the film at least has the ability to not leave us indifferent…
