An American cake with a heart

Girl next door stands out for its way of dealing with teenage romantic relationships, in line with comedies of the genre such as American pie. But while American pie and its sequels often take a more burlesque and crude approach teenage sex, Girl next door chooses to explore relationships with greater emotional depth and seriousness, particularly through Danielle and Matthew’s questions, or the touching scene of their first kiss.

Upon its release, the film was not a major success (only 30 million at the international box office), but acquired cult comedy status with its release on video. Even today the feature film is rather appreciated by the public, as confirmed by the rating of 3/5 assigned by colleagues atAlloCinéwhere we can read in particular:

An example of intelligent comedy, which is good for morale.

A sublime and very captivating film

The film avoids the trap of vulgarity and is quite dramatic with some morals
