Star Wars: A new lightsaber introduced in The Acolyte, fans will scream!

You don’t have to be a fan of Star Wars to know what a lightsaber is. The famous weapon imagined by George Lucas has become one of the strong symbols of the saga. And who hasn’t already pretended to brandish these swords wielded by the Jedi and the Sith, reproducing the famous hum that characterizes them yourself. Originally, the variations were minimal as the first films only featured a blue or red lightsaber. With Return of the Jedi (1983), it was a green saber that the audience discovered, in Luke’s hands. But the prelogy upset the codes with many very different swords.

First with the charming Darth Maul’s double lightsaber (The Phantom Menace), before Samuel L Jackson managed to convince George Lucas to give him a purple lightsaber. Since then, between films, series, novels and even video games, many other colors and shapes of sabers have been introduced into the Star Wars universe. And meanwhile Disney+ is preparing to launch a new show with The Acolyte, we learn that, there too, there will be something new on the side of these iconic weapons. The series will introduce new weapons which should make fans react, for better or for worse…

A laser whip and a new lightsaber on the way The Acolyte

Created by Leslye Headland, The Acolyte will introduce many new Jedi to the universe Star Wars. The series is set 100 years before George Lucas’ films, during the era of the High Republic. A period of peace that will be interrupted by the intervention of a Sith who will begin killing several Jedi… Questioned by Rotten tomatoes on the new features she wanted to bring to this series, Leslye Headland announced the introduction of two new weapons.

First of all a whip-shaped lightsaberin which the most avid fans immersed themselves books on the High Republic. In it, Jedi Vernestra Rwoh uses this atypical weapon capable of switching from a simple lightsaber to a purple light whip. In the series The AcolyteRebecca Henderson plays this character, so she should have this sword with her.

But that’s not all, because Leslye Headland also imagined a new and unique sword. The designer would have proposed her idea to the accessories department, which would initially have welcomed her proposal with disapproval.

When I proposed it to the prop department (…), they said ‘You can’t do that, it’s not something that’s going to work’ and I said ‘Please, if you can accommodate me, it’s not something I’m willing to ‘give up on’ . And finally these incredible craftsmen managed to make my dream come true.

Leslye Headland has not provided further details on this new saber, but we can imagine that it will be something truly original, perhaps in the same spirit as the laser whip. The type of proposal that should divide fans of Star Wars, among purists and those open to the new. After all, the designer has already prepared for the public’s reactions. Recently, you warned some “fans” that they might be hateful rather than providing legitimate criticism.

The Acolyte will be discovered on Disney+ from June 4th.
