Kathryn Bigelow: From one project to another with Netflix
We’ve been waiting for a new film for seven years. Kathryn Bigelowafter the release of the excellent Detroit (2017). We believed it, in April 2022, when the director of Minesweeper (2010) e Zero Dark Thirty (2013) has taken on a new project for Netflix. Unfortunately this film, which was supposed to be an adaptation of David Koepp’s novel, Aurorait was finally canceled by the platform, two years after the initial announcement. Very bad news for the filmmaker’s worshipers (like us). But if this project by Kathryn Bigelow could not see the light, it is also because the director had something else in mind, always accompanied by Netflix.
The platform would give Kathryn Bigelow carte blanche to direct a geopolitical thriller set in the White House. Of course, given that the director has had a number of aborted projects in recent years, we allow ourselves to remain a little skeptical. But the arrival of two stars in the casting it gives us some hope and makes the next Netflix movie suddenly very appealing.

In fact, Expiration says that this film, which still doesn’t have a title, will at least be supported by Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson. Even if it is not necessary to go back to the careers of the two interpreters a priori, we remember that both have collaborated with another platform, Apple TV+. The first with Hijackand the second with Silo. Two series appreciated by subscribers and which will give the right to a season 2.
As for Kathryn Bigelow’s Netflix film, information about it remains minimal. Deadline’s sources simply indicated that the film will indeed be set in the White House during a national crisis. This remains vague, but with the presence of these two stars the project should gain momentum. And of course we trust that Kathryn Bigelow will once again bring a critical and relevant look at America, both directly (Detroit) or indirect (Strange days).
