“She” will traumatize you
If the large American platforms such as Netflix, Disney+ or even Prime Video are the protagonists of streaming, some platforms allow you to enjoy excellent cinematic entertainment even at home, with one fundamental difference: their access is free. This is the case, for example, of the France TV platform, a streaming service from France Télévisions that allows you to watch the group’s channels live but also to find an entire catalog of films and series available for free. The opportunity to (re)discover some gems, including the exceptional thriller Shejust arrived on France TV.
“She” is Isabelle Huppert in the role of Michèle Leblanc, a entrepreneur accomplished and who runs a video game company with his partner and friend Anna. Her life is turned upside down when a masked man breaks into her house and rapes her. While she thought she had everything under control, she sank into a sort of paranoia. She sleeps with a weapon under her pillow, she hears noises and above all she begins to suspect those around her and her staff who she has spied on. Believing she can solve everything, she prefers not to press charges. Only a few weeks later she revealed what had happened to her friends and to Richard, her former partner…
Cruelty, genius and immense success
With She, Paul Verhoeven certainly makes his hardest, most ambiguous and devious film, painting the portrait of a raped woman who will prove to be anything but a fragile victim. By managing the rape she suffered in her own way – and a family history that stole her innocence – the character played by Isabelle Huppert will overturn her life and that of the people close to her, revealing all its ambiguity, bringing to light the great madness that it lies at the basis of their easy and a priori normal daily life.

There is genius in the writing and direction of the film. As in Isabelle Huppert’s simultaneously funny and chilling performance, awarded with her second César for best actress in 2017 for this role. A genius that we also find in the cast surrounding him, with Laurent Lafitte, Anne Consigny, Charles Berling and even Jonas Bloquet and Virginie Efira, all brilliantly embodying characters entirely at the mercy of the madness – or clairvoyance – of Michèle Leblanc.
Extremely cruel, funny, scary and at the same time brilliant in the vice and sexuality that intensely permeate all his images, She is a masterpiece of realistic psychological horror. He has received numerous awards, including the César for best film and a shower of awards for Isabelle Huppert, awarded with a Golden Globe and nominated for an Oscar for best actress in addition to his Caesar.
She is available for free on france.tv Until August 30th Next.
