Survival Instinct is available for free streaming

While the French film Netflix Under the Seine enjoys an impressive worldwide success, let’s stay on the topic of sharks with survival Survival instinct directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and released in 2016. For a few days it has been available for free (just create an account) on the France Télévisions website (france.tv).

The film stars Blake Lively in the lead role and tells the gripping story of a young woman’s fight for survival against a great white shark.

Nancy Adams (Blake Lively) goes to a remote beach in Mexico to surf and mourn her recently deceased mother. While she enjoys the waves, she is attacked by a great white shark and finds herself stranded on a rock a few hundred meters from the shore, with a leg injury. Isolated and without means of communication, Nancy will have to use all her resources and ingenuity to survive, find a way to return to the mainland and escape the predator who seems particularly bloodthirsty.

A pure survival film

Survival instinct it is, as its (French) name indicates, a pure survival film, an almost behind closed doors film full of tension in which the only human character is that of Nancy. The scenes are designed to maintain constant tension, with sequences in which Nancy must improvise solutions to heal her wound, find food and water and above all escape her predator. Jaume Collet-Serra’s minimalist production cleverly plays with confined space and the proximity of danger to create an extremely tense atmosphere.

At the box office, Survival instinct it was a commercial success. The film grossed approx $119 million worldwide, against a production budget estimated at $17 million. In France, the film attracted more than half a million viewers upon its release.
