25 years after the release of “Bocanada”, a gem by Gustavo Cerati

25 years have passed since the release of “Bocanada”, the great album by Gustavo Cerati with hits like “Raíz”, “Puente”, “Paseo immoral”, “Tabú”, “Engaña” and “Río Babel”.

Bocanada » was released in 1999 and marked the official start of Gustavo’s solo career., who had previously released albums like “Amor Amarillo” and Soda Stereo side projects like “Plan V” and “Colores Santos” (with Daniel Melero). But with this job, he began touring all over the country and abroad, playing with his band at his own shows and at festivals.

The reception was extraordinary, with numerous praises from the specialized press and sales that earned him a platinum disc in Argentina, in addition to winning two Gardel Music Awards the following year, in the categories of best rock artist and best cover.

The composition process begins to take shape between his house in Santiago de Chile and his old apartment in Buenos Aires, working alone with his guitars, keyboards and the Akai MPC sampler, which allowed him to compose sketches with small portions of records and sounds that he really appreciated.

He then moved with his family to a new house in the Vicente López neighborhood, where he built a studio that he first named Sótano Beat and then – after a flood – Casa Submarina. There he finishes the songs and makes the final takes, in the company of musician friends such as Flavio Etcheto and Leo García, in addition to calling on drummer Martín Carrizo and bassist Fernando Nalé.

For some specific songs, he called on Tweety González, Rudie Martínez and arranger Alejandro Terán, who worked on the song “Verbo carne”, recorded with the London Session Orchestra at the famous Abbey Road studios. Additionally, on two lyrics he worked with Francisco Bochatón (“Paseo immoral”) and Pablo Schanton (“Bocanada”).

The cover was created by designer Alejandro Ros, with a photo by Gaby Herbstein where Gustavo appears in profile with lots of cigarette smoke, bathed in blue with small red rubies arranged like stars.

The first video was for the song “Puente”, and in September the presentation tour in Mexico began, which filled six Gran Rex cinemas in Argentina.

“I have dedicated myself to the joy of finding my spaces of freedom again and that is why what this album arouses, in addition to all the sensations it can produce, is for me a true feeling of freedom. A very important time in my life begins and this album is the first thing I do with a feeling of more future. “I start as a soloist,” Cerati himself said about this album.
