“He’s Brutal”: Too Muscular, Paul Mescal Put Pedro Pascal Through Hell on the Set of Gladiator 2

Gladiator 2 : the first official images

Expected in French theaters on November 20th, Gladiator 2 has finally begun to reveal itself. Thanks to Vanity Fair, which was able to share a series of exclusive images, we were able to get a first idea of the sequel to Ridley Scott’s classic. Above all, the opportunity to see the main characters in action, in costume and above all in the arena. Among the people in these images are Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Denzel Washington, Fred Hechinger and Joseph Quinn.

If Connie Nielsen reprises the role of Lucilla, Paul Mescal becomes his son Lucio. The story should follow the latter, now an adult, who lives in the region of Numidia, in North Africa, where he was sent by his mother. The latter wanted to keep him out of the reach of the Roman Empire. But events will bring Lucius back to Rome as a gladiatorwhere he will make new enemies, including of course Pedro Pascal.

In fact, the two men will face each other in the arena, as we could see in the photos of Vanity Fair. Images that impress actors physically at the level. Enough to reassure those who had difficulty imagining the revelation. Normal people (2022) in the role of a gladiator. It must be said that the latter has trained well to be able to be”tall and strong” and of “He seems like someone who can cause a lot of damage when things go wrong“, as he explained Vanity Fair. Except that during filming it was Pedro Pascal who paid the price.

Pedro Pascal impressed by Paul Mescal

In fact, always in the American media, Pedro Pascal reacted with the imposing physique of Paul Mescalwhich he nicknamed on set “Paul Brick Wall“(Paul the brick wall). According to him, facing him in the arena in front of Ridley Scott’s cameras was not easy, and it would have been too”brutal“.

He’s gotten so strong. I’d rather be thrown off a building than have to fight him again. Facing someone so strong, so talented, and so much younger… It’s brutal.

For his part, Paul Mescal made it clear that he wanted to build muscle, but that he needed to find the right balance so as not to risk looking “more like an underwear model than a warrior“. In fact, we find in him something imposing as it was Russell Crowe in the first Gladiator (2000). This approach would have been advantageous for the actor, who, although feeling really strong, behaved differently.

Feeling strong in your body makes you feel different. We behave differently. This has a psychological impact that is useful for the film.

Now we expect to see more with a first trailer Gladiator 2 which we hope will happen soon.
