Enemy Territory is available for free streaming
Every week, the France Télévisions website offers its subscribers free access to numerous films and programs (creating an account is 100% free). For example, you can find this film based on a real hostage situation with Tom Hanks, or discover Denzel Washington’s first production.
In recent days France Télévisions has added the war film In enemy territory directed by John Moore and released in 2002 at the cinema.
The story is set during the war in Bosnia and follows the adventures of a U.S. Navy officer, Lieutenant Chris Burnett, played by Owen Wilson. After his F/A-18 Hornet reconnaissance plane is shot down over enemy territory, Burnett finds himself stranded behind enemy lines. The film chronicles his struggle to survive and evade the hostile forces pursuing him, as he attempts to rejoin the Allied forces.
The role of the commander of the rescue mission, Admiral Leslie Reigart, is played by Gene Hackman. Reigart faces political and military obstacles in organizing the rescue of Burnett.
A film that went unnoticed at the cinema
At the worldwide box office, In enemy territory grossed more than $91 million on a budget of $40 million. But in France, the film went unnoticed with just 145,000 cumulative admissions upon its release.
Upon its release, the film received mixed reviews. Some critics praised the intensity of the action scenes and Gene Hackman’s convincing performance. However, others criticized the film for its lack of depth in character development and some historical inaccuracies.
If it was inspired by real events that happened during the war in Bosnia, and in particular theThe Mrkonjic Grad incidentthe plot took some creative liberties.
Three sequels were then released in 2006, 2009 and 2014. They were released on video only.
