Shannen Doherty Dies at Age 53
Shannen Doherty, the iconic actress of popular series Beverly Hills, 90210 AND Charmeddied at the age of 53 after a long battle with breast cancer, diagnosed in 2015. Her agent confirmed the sad news in a statement to People : “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with the disease after many years of struggle.“
Diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2015, Shannen Doherty announced in 2017 that she was in remission. However, in 2019 the disease returned and spread. Despite this, she continued to work, starring in several television films. In June 2023, she revealed that she was receiving radiation treatments for the cancer that had spread to her brain.
From Beverly Hills to Charmed
Shannen Doherty achieved international fame in 1990 thanks to her role as Brenda Walsh in the cult series Beverly Hills, 90210 broadcast on Fox. Along with her twin brother Brandon, played by Jason Priestley, Brenda and her family, fresh from Minnesota to Beverly Hills, have charmed viewers with their adventures among the rich kids of Los Angeles.
Five years after the tragic death of Luke Perry, a new death has darkened the memories of fans of this cult series, broadcast in France from 1993 to 2001 on TF1.
After his departure from Beverly HillsShannen Doherty had once again had a key role in another series: Charmeda supernatural drama that follows three sisters who discover they are witches and must join forces to fight evil. She played Prue Halliwell, the eldest sister, alongside Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs. Her character was killed off at the end of season three, marking her departure from the series.
