Tonight on TV: This Under-the-Radar Comedy Is One of Daniel Auteuil’s Biggest Failures

The Castaway: Daniel Auteuil Plays It Alone in the World

In 2016, four years after having had success with on the other side of the ring road (more than two million viewers), David Charhon signs a new comedy entitled The castaways.

The film by Daniel Auteuil and Laurent Stoker tells the story of two men at opposite ends of the spectrum, Jean-Louis Brochard, a financial swindler on the run, and William Boulanger, a dyer whose wife has just left him. After a plane crash, they meet again stranded on a desert island. Their forced cohabitation is not easy, especially because the island hides unexpected mysteries. Forced to survive together, they will have to face surprising situations that will unite them in spite of themselves and bind them forever.

A box office failure and killer reviews

Unlike his previous comedy, on the other side of the ring road, The castaways it was not a great success in the theaters, on the contrary. In fact the film does not exceed not even the threshold of 100,000 registrations and it is a bitter commercial failure, for a budget estimated at 14 million euros. The presence of Daniel Auteuil at the top of the billboard was not enough to convince spectators to come to the cinema.

Even from the point of view of opinions the results are not good, as demonstrated by the average of 1.7/5 of our colleagues atAlloCine. We can read there:

“Complete rubbish. How could such actors get involved in this huge mess?”

“Run away !”

“I was bored from start to finish!”

“I, who am a relatively good public figure, was devastated because the situations were so hopelessly unnecessary.”

“What is Daniel Auteuil doing in this film?”

“Everything is flat, insipid, the humor is absent and the actors try hard to keep their heads above water, but nothing works.”

This is what we call a real shipwreck.
